Mundane Buenos Aires

I've made mention of my window seat preferences in the past and this little dipych is a nice example of what it's all about. I made this on my way to Uruguay last weekend as a storm coalesced above Buenos Aires' Aeroparque. It's also one of those rack focus pairings that have concerned me of late. Happy stuff.

Also, I still haven't gotten a chance to play with Adobe's Lightroom. Has anyone else? Is so, post a comment.

Take pictures out your window.

Lightroom is really cool, very fast, and looks likes it will be a great application when they finish it. For quick adjustments is really good - and they have a sync option that allows you to make the same adjustments to other pictures. It also seems pretty snappy on "normal" hardware.

The bad things - the keyword doesn't seem to really be working right - I mean you can keyword images - but if you want to use those keywords it doesn't really work right. Unless you only want to select a single keyword, I generally use multiple.

So far it is pretty nice though. I guess Adobe is aware folks are thinking that they did this in response to Aperture and there is a blog out there from one of the developers show how they have been working on this for a while now - Apple just beat them to market.

I've been playing around with Lightroom since yesterday and so far I really like it.
I've been using the RAW converter in Photoshop CS for about a year now.
And if the price is right I'll add Lightroom as a major part of my workflow.
The layout is very nice, one of the things that attracted me to Aperture was that the
program was black. I'm glad to see that Lightroom has that same appearance.
The library has a good feel to it but hopefully the main release will be able to support multiple libraries.
For me I keep all my raw files on separate drives with many folders so I like the fact that
Lightroom gives you four options for loading images into the library. Link, copy, move and Digital Negative.
Being able to use the loupe in the library is very handy when you want to compare images
at the same magnification. Though you do preview them one at a time. There is a compare option available for view multiple images.
Lots of great tools in the Develop section, plus some extra shadow and highlight features under the histogram which CS is missing.
Looks like Lightroom will be able to support third party "filter type" presets in the preset browser.
Maybe I haven't found this function yet but a preview check box would be nice
especially if you plan on doing some presharpening or any other adjustment that
you would want to compare with the original or at least the changes you've made up
to that point.
The slide show is fine but I'm not sure how much I'd use the feature.
The print menu will replace the tedious contact sheet flow I go through now with CS.
There are lots of good print options here and has a great menu for storing and recalling
presets. The program does give you an easy way to import your image into photoshop
which is where I'd probably be sending most of my images that need additional sharpening or other tweaks.
Lightroom does appear to be nondestructive at least the sample images had sidecar files
but when I imported a raw file by linking it I didn't notice any sidecar file being created.
Hopefully those files will be routed back to the original file especially if I want to change my
images to another library in the future.
Well give it shot and see what you think. Runs very well on my Dual G5 at work but I'm a little
worried about how quick it will be on my G4 at home.
