Would You Look at That

My friend Rob sent me a little screen shot from Apple's new iPhone promo material because one of the photos reminded him of mine. He's right! That's my shot on the right and the iPhone on the left.

And can I say how happy I am that there isn't a camera in this first version of the iPhone. It's a photo album but it doesn't take pictures. It's like Steve Jobs and I agree that if you want to take pictures, use a camera, not a phone. That said, my rep tells me some National Geographic photographer made a cross-country trip and published a book of his cell phone snaps. Go figure.

Cheers from Buenos AIres.

Take Pictures.

The National Geographic photographer is Robert Clark:

The photos are on his site under Special Projects -> Image America. They're a lot better than you'd expect from a camera phone.

I wish the stories behind each of them were posted.

Clay,

If you look at the technical specifications of the iPhone you will realise that there is indeed a camera in the phone. A 2 Mega Pixel camera.

While I agree that a real camera is better for taking photos, having a camera in your phone can be useful for when you don't have your real camera with you. Which happens quite often if you are not a pro photographer.

Martin Parr also did a camera phone project

Not that it is much good compare to his work with real cameras

Enos:

Punta del Este is OK, but go more to the east and shoot real beaches and real people.
Location like Punta del Diablo, Cabo Polonio (great dunes and fishermens towns, only accessible by 4x4), La Paloma and La Pedrera Beach (surfers towns).
Punta del Este is only another high society city like others in europe or Florida.
Take pictures and enjoy all!!

i guess i just think if you are using your phone as a camera it really doesn´t do justice to the medium. it´s not like a brownie or a holga or even a pinhole camera. The camera phone is an after-thought and i want it to be given more attention by both the manufacturer and the user. photographs are powerful things and with a few notable exceptions, should be made that way.

Who kissed my sister. I can´t find the question mark on this computer...
