No film, No firearms

In some airports you need to bring your checked bags over to the CTX scanners yourself. I did just that this morning in Portland. The TSA woman politely asked if I had any film to which I replied "no." She followed that question with another, "no firearms?" Again, the answer was a negative. I walked away with a smile thinking once again how two seemingly very different things get lumped together. Photography and firearms, go figure.

While I know she was asking the former question with my best interests in mind, I couldn't help making the jump to see photography as a weapon. Film is my ammo. If only they made a fixed 9mm lens, I'd be in business. I'd be "packin' my 9" everywhere I go.

Who is shooting film these days anyway? Other than my mom.

Make pictures.

Let me tell you, I shoot film still (for my trusty fun Holga) and film + airport, not fun. My G/f bought me 30 rolls of 120 from B&H in NYC and I only had time to shoot about 2 rolls. So i took the rest home back to New Mexico, and the joy of joys as I asked them to personally hand check the film (Didn't want to nuke it in the xray machine). Little did I know they would actually open each box, and open the package too and look at it. Since I love taking my holga to NYC with me, I did this two more times, last trip needless to say I didn't bother with it. I am hoping the nice B&W Film isn't ruined cause its been open for months now and I haven't gotten around to shooting with it.

If it's not super high speed stuff it should be good. I shoot film too but only for fun. I recently traded a D200 for a lovely Mamiya RX 6x7 getup so they'll be more film in my future.

I heard lots of things that if its not highspeed I should be okay, but I got worried cause I couldn't get a straight answer plus i heard they have been upping the power on the scanners. Plus I need to find a good place to develop film in NYC :)

I shoot film sometimes. I really adore film, but I'm such an impatient person. I have an old Pentax K1000 when I'm in a film mood. Otherwise I have my Canon Rebel XT.

funny about the camparison between film and firearms. You "shoot" both. :P
