Coincidence

While putting photos next to each other I was struck with the way these two images paired up. Both were taken yesterday and while I blogged the right one earlier, the left one was only taken about a half hour later. It's a little creepy how nicely they go together and both were taken without looking at the screen/iPhone.

Also, in case anyone was wondering when I might make more compelling, high-res images they needn't worry. Right now I'm just hanging out with a friend, not adventuring around putting photography first. That will happen soon enough.

Mundane Zona Rosa

Yesterday I ended up in the Zona Rosa of Bogotá before most folks were out and about. I walked down the street to find a smoldering chair. The smoke doesn't show up in my little iphone's 800x600 camera but it doesn't matter much. It's just one of those little moments of surreality that causes me to make a picture.

Then, about thirty yards further along the road he simplicity of things aligned for another shot. My camera was already in hand so it just was a matter of stepping back a bit, lining things up and I knew I had a match for my chair shot.

This morning they came together in Photoshop and moments later they we're here for all to see.

Fence Face

I've got a thing for wheat-pasting. It's the simplest form of advertising around and it's often some of the more interesting stuff I pass in my travels. I'm not talking about airport-style HSBC billboards either. I'm talking about the stuff folks legitimately glue up in the middle of the night on walls and other often temporary venues. What makes them interesting are the imperfections that are inherent in those contexts. Walls are uneven, construction sites are busy, stuff gets beat up fast. It's not precious. I like that.

This is the face of some printed vinyl ad hiding an abandoned lot in Bogotá. The severity of the rip across her face caused me to double-take and immediately take out my phone.

In the sun I couldn't even see what I'd taken. Only later did the drama of the image reveal itself. It was a pleasant surprise.

My Camera Bag

If you were ever curious what my camera bag looks like, here it is. I made this fantastic iphone photo sitting at the airport and sent it flickr's way. I sent a bunch of other random pix as well so if you are curious to see more photos and do less reading just pop over to the flickr stream and skip all the words.

It's a shame that the iphone camera is as dumb as all point and shoots. They think the world is grey so exposures are often off. Then, I'm sending them directly to flickr without adjusting levels so they look washed out and dark. Very professional.

More on the bag; this is how I roll on the airplane. Once I've reached my destination things thin out a bit. I don't necessarily take all my chargers on location. And I certainly don't pack my noise canceling headphones.

Welcome to McHattan

Some advertising can be clever. Some even considers it's colors to blend in perfectly with the sky's. I'm sure that wasn't the Village Voice's concern with this one but that's what caught my eye. All the lovely blue and whites were talking to each other. Then, just as bonus, a swirling mass of graffiti on a white truck gave me some foreground content.

Out came the iphone and up went another low res record of my day.

Look out Dan Connor!

Recycle Your Hummer

Just walking along 13th Street I was struck by the obvious irony recycling piled up reflecting in an H3.

I turned it into a self-portrait opportunity.

Sidewalk Scene

I know, I know, I'm being lazy but I'm digging just making pictures, uploading them and sharing them. No adjustments, no nothing. Hop on board the iPhone-Flickr express.

As I'm about to head to South America I will divide my posts between more formal efforts and these casual iPhone/Point-n-Shoot shots by signing off with "Make pictures" and "Make pix" respectively.

Deal? Deal.

My Watchmen EW Cover

This ran a while back but I failed to blog about it. Kinda cool. All that work in Vancouver is starting to trickle out as the PR and press starts to gain momentum. The shot of Jeffery on the far right is totally different light than the others but it works well.

Props to the photoshop folks. They could make a monkey's shots look good.

Also, apparently the movie posters are floating around the production office but I haven't seen anything yet as I'm in New York.

8th Avenue Night

Okay, this is how it's gonna be for a bit. I've been too busy and too client-focused to share my newest stuff. But my iPhone has potential to keep me blogging.

I know it's low res and stupid, but hey, it's better than nothing.

I was walking up 8th Avenue a few nights ago when I stumbled upon this guy sleeping next to what I assume is his own puke and wallet-sized headshot. A lovely little NYC moment that couldn't be passed up. It's a good rule of thumb, never pass up the passed out.
