A Record

I'm thrilled to be part of a little Time Inc. publishing record. Entertainment Weekly has never done six covers of the same issue before. That is until today's release of the six-cover Watchmen issue.

It's an honor to think all the photos (with the slight exception of Dr. M) are mine.

Check out the gallery here.

Make pictures.

Nice!

Too bad Time Warner and my regional magazine distributor are having a slight argument about reality right now - Or I would look forward to seeing those covers in the flesh.

Clay, I heard and enjoyed you on the Ron and Fez show. I just read an interview that mentioned you using a D200. This stunned me after seeing the book I imagined some sort of medium format system because the photos are so dynamically rich in tone.

Can you tell us about the lenses you used? And perhaps talk a little about the lighting and strobe system you worked with?

It's absolutely dazzling work. And I can't fault your financial arrangement as this is clearly a case of paying it forward, you'll have huge opportunities going forward directly stemming from this. Kudos sir.

Ryan, I shot all the portraits with a 50mm f1.4 lens. I used natural light for almost everything. A few of the rioters are shot with artificial light but I used a huge 40' x 40' bounce to emulate natural light. No strobes ever got used. I don't even own any.

Thanks for asking.
